The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun.
—Psalm 74:16
Return to the Light

More images to follow this summer as well as an expanded Flickr collection.
These will be selected scenes gratefully observed from simply looking upward, from a backyard perch or while out on a longer walk, and from unexpected discoveries far from home.
Wherever these may be found, it is the time spent there that matters most. If the moment cannot be shared, the camera is an instrument that becomes both witness and friend.
When the mind is patient and watchful, time slows down. You begin to notice the lesser-traveled roads, the forgotten places, and the ever-changing light that rewards those willing to wait and see what happens next.
Many of these images were made in California and across the vast and stark beauty of the American West — in the wide open backyard of the imagination.
We can go far but we can never go home again in this life—truly going home is the blessed hope of the next life—to be home in the eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ who is the light of this world, and the next. He is the way, the truth, and the life. The red-letter day of the end of this age draws ever closer and it will be the gateway to the Lord’s terrestrial millennial kingdom, the final prelude to the new heaven and the new earth which he has prepared for us.
What we imagine all this will be like is, at best, a fantasy—but what the Lord has promised is not. In this living moment, we can still choose to pay attention, each day and each night, to find the way to search ourselves and return to the light of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, who gave us the life and the blessed hope that sustains us.
In the love, warmth, clarity and grace of his light we can choose to gratefully prepare for the unfolding reality of what will surely be far beyond what the mind, the eye, or any devices we may have available to us can only scarcely begin to reveal.
